On one of Zanzibar?s most secluded beaches is a luxurious, imaginative, peaceful hideaway. Set on forty acres of the Menai beach conservation area, Fumba beach peninsula is both a large marine haven, and an eco-project. Fumba peninsula is designated an area of outstanding natural beauty since 1998, by the World Wild Life Federation.

Fumba Beach Lodge offers well-designed elegance, with friendly first class service. Just 30 minutes from the capital, Stone Town, the lodge is away from busy tourist areas, a perfect venue for enjoying tranquillity, and the space to dream, swim, dive, walk amongst tropical gardens, or have that special romantic occasion in one of the many secluded spots. There are ample opportunities to dine - in a range of environments, with legendary food prepared by trained chefs.

Set in forty acres of exquisite wilderness: tropical forests, secluded protected beaches, there are twenty six spacious en suite rooms; twenty are Deluxe ?bandas? with ensuite bathroom, terrace, stunning ocean view, suitable for families or couples. Four are Luxury Suites, and there are two Baobab Suites. All of our rooms have king size double beds, mosquito nets, fans, top-quality imported bed linen and quilts for the very occasional chilly nights.

Deluxe room These large, light rooms have an ensuite bathroom, fans, an ocean view and king size beds.

Luxury suites The four luxury suites have a bath, a Frank Lloyd Wright inspired outside shower overlooking the ocean with direct access to the beach, private roof terrace and king size beds.

Baobab suites For the ultimate extravagance, spoil yourself in one of the two lodgings cradled around a 300 year old baobab tree, with their complete bathrooms open to the elements with direct access to the beach. We strive at all times to provide thoughtful and professional service.

The men and women in Fumba Beach Lodge's kitchen, are renowned for the outstanding meals they serve to our Guests.

Using the best ingredients which flourish under the African sun: fresh herbs, lemongrass, ginger, garlic, cauliflower, courgettes, aubergines and carrots, and the most sun ripened succulent tomatoes you have ever tasted. All herbs and vegetables come straight from our own vegetable garden. Here on the Fumba Peninsula we have some of the most fertile soils on Zanzibar, giving us the most amazing, sweet, ripe tropical fruits: mangos, bananas, coconuts, jackfruits, passion fruit, and oranges.

Right on our doorstep from the warm waters of the Indian Ocean, our neighbors, the fisherman catch the most succulent tunas snappers, barracuda?s lobsters, prawns, and crabs. All of this fresh produce and seafood is delivered to us on a daily basis, and has been for many years now.

Always with a smile and a song our chefs start early in the morning chopping, grilling, baking, and cooking. Throughout the day, despite the searing heat of Africa, they provide us with the best meals on the island.

Zanzibar is synonymous with spices, brought to us by the wonderful women of Fumba Village who use them in their local dishes. Initially they showed us how to cook with spices and gave us inspiration for the mixture of African and Mediterranean cuisine that we provide, and in the process, gave us a respect for the ingredients. We focus on elegant taste combined with simple and clean presentations to give you the best cuisine Zanzibar has to offer.

Next to Fumba Lodge is the Fumba Village; like the site of Fumba beach Lodge it was originally bush. The villagers helped us find this remote area, and with their help the lodge was built. Some villagers are still employed by Fumba Lodge and the Sheha (chief) of the village regularly passes by to say hello.

Guests are welcome to take a stroll through the village by themselves or accompanied by Simba the Masaii dog from the mainland who has lived at Fumba since the opening of the lodge. Simba is regularly mistaken as the Guest relation manager with his particular attitude, confidence and friendliness!

Baobab Spa

Welcome to Fumba Lodge's spa and massage therapy centre; prepare yourself for one of the best centres in East Africa! Our unique spa is spread indoors and out, you can choose from a wide range of beauty treatments and a range of massages suitable for men and women. The spa centre has been built around a majestic African Baobab tree with a six metre platform. Our trained therapists will leave you feeling delicious!

The Jacuzzi is built into the tree itself. Shaded by rustling leaves, and overlooking the lush landscape, you can ask for whatever you want: a romantic shared bath with champagne under the night skies, a day time soak, or a solitary scrub.
