Summary

Ibo Island lies in the Quirimbas Archipelago of northern Mozambique. Nominated for World Heritage status Ibo has been described as one of the most unique and atmospheric islands in the world.

Ibo Island Lodge was built by the community, pioneering tourism development on Ibo. Today either directly or indirectly, the lodge benefits a large part of Ibo's population. Here your island eco-tourist visit really does make a difference.

Accommodation

Located on the prime waterfront site where romantic dhows sail out to sea on each high tide, Ibo Island Lodge encompasses magnificent mansions each over one hundred years old with coral and lime walls over a meter thick, high lofty ceilings and original beams. Ibo Island is a potential World Heritage Site and therefore rooms have been designed to incorporate the architecture and style of the original ruins.

The lodge accommodates guests in beautifully elegant, yet simple rooms, with indigenous solid teak and mahogany furniture handcrafted by the people of Ibo.

All nine bedrooms are individual and feature a king size 4-poster, or twin hand crafted beds with crisp cotton linen and Indian silk throws.

Bathrooms are all ensuite with twin basins and large marble showers and hot and cold water. Wide verandas are a traditional feature of all Ibo mansions, but we widened ours considerably to house comfortable plantation style chairs with soft cushions from where you can enjoy drinks and make the very most of either sea or garden views.

Room Facilities:

  • Air conditioning and ceiling fan
  • Large windows for sea breeze
  • King size extra length hand crafted bed with mosquito net (twin beds are also available)
  • Indigenous teak and mahogany handcrafted furniture
  • Solid mahogany wardrobe with hangers
  • Chest safe with lock
  • Brass and antique fittings
  • Linen gown for use whilst on the island
  • A range of Ibo guest amenities
  • Hair dryer / Water flasks / Morning tea and coffee.

There are many spaces in the gardens and the public areas of the lodge to nap, read or soak up the tranquility and guests are encouraged to explore and treat the lodge as a real home from home. Ibo Island Lodge is stylish, simple and unique.
