Summary
Looking for a unique destination for your next holiday or just a weekend getaway? Mkoma Bay Tented Lodge in Tanzania is the perfect venue offering relaxation and exceptional service.
Mkoma Bay's trademark is their luxury tented accommodation. For families or groups there is a larger Swahili Style house overlooking Mkoma Bay. The beautiful unspoiled beach makes Mkoma Bay a romantic spot for weddings or honeymoons.
You can relax under a shady tree over looking Mkoma Bay, take a swim in our pool or walk on the quiet beach. Just off the mainland, there is spectacular snorkeling and diving off the reefs of Maziwe Island which are a virtual underwater paradise. Mkoma Bay has its own boat to take you up the Pangani River looking for birds or the illusive crocodile! Explore old Pangani on a walking tour arranged with local guides.
Mkoma Bay has excellent facilities for meetings, workshops, or retreats. With reliable Internet access (if you want it!), it is the perfect venue to get away from the office and work in a natural environment.
Pangani is still a best kept secret of the intrepid traveler. Pristine beaches, historic architecture, and sleepy coastal ambiance make this area a favorite of returning visitors. Come visit our little piece of paradise!
Accommodation
To give a feeling of being on safari, yet with a cool ocean breeze, the Lodge offers seven thatch covered tents nestled in a forest like environment. Each tent is equipped with a king size or two large single Zanzibari beds and en suite showers and bathrooms, writing desk and chair, fan, and mosquito net. The veranda provides views of the lush garden and a place to have a cool drink.
You will have a choice between Selous Tents and slightly larger Savannah Tents.
For larger groups or families, the Lodge offers a spacious four-bedroom, three-bath Swahili style house with ocean views. The house has a vast open terrace and is the perfect place to relax after a day at the beach or pool. This facility is also available for workshops and retreats. Self catering possibilities exist with this option. (Minimum 4 adults).
To appeal to the more budget conscious traveler, we have five bungalows, each equipped with a double sized bed or two twins, mosquito net, fan, sink, and simple furniture.
Lodge facilities for the use of all guests include:
Food
Your stay can either be on a bed & breakfast basis, or half board (breakfast and your choice of lunch or dinner).
Fresh seafood is always featured on the menu and our chefs pride themselves in developing dishes using local spices to give our food a Swahili flavor to accommodate all tastes.
Environment Info
Flora: Palm trees line the coast and at the Lodge we have both landscaped gardens and ?wild? areas which include several species of hibiscus, banana, and palm. There is an abundance of mango trees that are favorites of the Vervet Monkeys!
Fauna: Vervet Monkeys inhabit the trees throughout the camp and in the evenings, you can hear the calls of Bush Babies. For bird enthusiasts, we have surveyed over 95 different types of birds around the camp and surrounding areas including the illusive African Finfoot. Commonly seen birds include Kingfishers, Bee Eaters Terns, Palm Nut Vultures, Kites, and Fish Eagles.
Marine Life: The marine life around Mkoma Bay abounds in many species of fish such as Red Snapper, Kingfish, and Tuna, and also crab, lobster, octopus, and shrimp. Starfish, shells, and sand dollars can often be found along the beach. Sea turtles have been seen laying their eggs on the beach and we are involved in the local initiatives to protect these magnificent creatures.
