Environment Info
Mondazur Resort Estate Hotel is located on KwaZulu Natal's South Coast, in a picturesque region known as the Hibiscus Coast.
Living up to its name, the Hibiscus Coast dazzles with iridescent blooms against a lush green backdrop, meeting a perennially-warm saltwater playground along 70 kilometres of picture perfect hideaway coves and seemingly endless golden sands. It's readily noticeable that several Hibiscus Coast resorts and hamlets were founded during our Colonial era and named after famous holiday destinations in the "Olde Country."
While the inviting stretch of Indian Ocean presents the year-round delights of frolicking dolphins and majestic, cruising whales, this enchantment peaks each June or July with "The Greatest Shoal on Earth" - when we offer the best possible "ringside" seats for one of nature's truly grand spectaculars. Visitors can marvel at 20-thousand dolphins plus thousands of sharks, hundreds of seals, uncountable game fish and the occasional whale - all herding and feeding from millions-strong sardine shoal, while massed squadrons of sea-birds rain down from above. The Zulu Kingdom's annual winter Sardine Run is a wonder of the world, attracting more attention from around the globe.
Apart from magnificent summers, we have good reason to lick a giant ice cream cone while strolling along a seafront promenade in the middle of winter, eyeing the bronzed sun lovers and graceful, athletic surfers at play. Anglers can stand knee-deep in the shore-break for hours on end, casting lines after some of the most varied and abundant scaled trophies to be hooked anywhere. For scuba divers, a world-class site presents a series of reefs to test the mettle and endurance of even the most experienced underwater fanatic.
Other challenges lie in wait ashore - some with panoramic sea views, others a short distance inland. The latter include white-water rafting, rock-climbing, mountain biking and one of the world's highest abseil and cable-side locations.
Activities
Beach: The one kilometre Marina Beach bordering the Estate is a beautiful sandy beach with an adjacent tidal pool. The Indian Ocean's warm Mozambique current guarantees year round pleasant sea bathing conditions.
It is one of the county's few beaches with the distinctive Blue Flag status. The Blue Flag is an international annual award given only to those beaches that meet excellence in safety, amenities, cleanliness and environmental standards.
The Marina Beach lifeguards are always in attendance and facilities are maintained in top-class standards throughout the year. Easy access for the disabled.
Golf: The centrepiece of the Estate's magnificent domain is the Championship Golf Course. The layout winds through pristine coastal flora and the tastefully constructed villas.
Its fairways clad in a strain of cynoden called Sahara, a grass which provides an excellent playing surface and which compliments the large, undulating Country Club-grassed greens.
There is certainly an interesting blend of holes on this tight economical layout, all memorable and all capable of frustrating the player who throws caution to the wind. Besides the impenetrable bush, there is an abundance of water on the course, but conservative playing routes are always available.
The elegant Clubhouse restaurant overlooks putting green numbers 8 and 18. You can also savour the comfort of the lounge, possibly the most beautiful location of the Estate.
Bird watching: The resort is a conservation haven with over 195 bird species, abundant wildlife and indigenous flora that will please every nature lover. Deadlines and frantic schedules have long been extinct, to be replaced by the call of the Fish Eagle and the lullaby of the Indian Ocean.
Other facilities: Complimented by scenic jogging paths and bowling greens, Mondazur guests can choose between a range of sporting options and relaxing diversions for both the amateur and the professional. These facilities include 4 flood lit tennis courts, 2 swimming pools, action cricket, 2 air-conditioned squash courts, volleyball, mashie golf and boat rides.
The Superette is located behind the Mondazur hotel. It is open from 8h00 til 17h00 Mondays to Saturdays, and from 8h00 till 14h00 on Sundays.
Conference Facilities
Mondazur offers two newly renovated function rooms that can accommodate banquets and conferences for delegates from 8 to 140 guests, with an outstanding range of presentation equipment in well-appointed rooms. In addition, exotic theme evenings supply an ideal respite from the executive demands of the day.
Mondazur excels in the three essential ingredients of successful conferences and entertaining - superb cuisine, impeccable service and an elegant atmosphere.
