Summary

Ponta Morrungulo is a well-established Mozambican holiday resort. Set amongst a huge grove of coconut trees in n Morrungulo, Massinga, it provides self-catering camping and chalet facilities - step straight onto a beautiful wide sandy clean beach. Campers have the use of clean, tiled ablution facilities with GAS geyser showers and flushing toilets.

The resort caters for families, individuals, deep sea and surf fishermen, scuba divers and snorkelers, or spend your days just relaxing and soaking up the sun on palm-fringed beaches. The camp rests under swaying coconut palms on the shores of the tropical Indian Ocean. It has extensive green lawns throughout the camp, shady indigenous trees, fresh drinking water and good security.

Ponta Morrungulo is located 560km north of Maputo and 20km north from Massinga. 4x4 vehicles are recommended but not essential. Sedans are also able to reach the camp.

Accommodation

Beachfront Chalet (4 sleeper): There are 7 of these particular chalets right on the beach front. They have a kitchen/dining area, one hot and cold gas shower and separate toilet, 2 bedrooms each sleeping 2 people. The chalet is equipped with deep freeze, 2 plate gas stove, crockery, cutlery, pots, etc. Blankets, sheets and mosquito nets are supplied but guests MUST BRING THEIR OWN TOWELS and toiletries, as these are not supplied.

There is also the provision in the dining area to fold down the benches to accommodate another 2 guests. Should there be more than 4 people utilising the chalet there is an additional charge N.B. Clients must bring their own mattresses/nets/bedding for extra guests. Tents are not permitted in chalet grounds.

Casita: There are 7 double storey units situated on the rise behind the chalets. These have 2 bedrooms (1 double bedroom downstairs and 2 single beds upstairs), kitchen/dining area, one hot and cold gas shower and separate toilet. The casita is equipped with deep freeze, 2 plate gas stove, crockery, cutlery, pots, etc. Blankets, sheets and mosquito nets are supplied but clients MUST BRING THEIR OWN TOWELS and toiletries, as these are not supplied.

Barracas (Lapa): There are 4 of these open thatched 5m x 4m concrete floored structures that each have a power point (5 amp), light and shelving. Most campers utilise these as a central living area and camp around the barraca.

We also offer camping in demarcated lawned campsites for approximately 100 people under the shade of coconut and indigenous trees. Plug points are also available. Ablution blocks are fully tiled and equipped with gas hot water showers. Bring your own toilet paper as this is not supplied.

Food

Accommodation at Ponta Morrungulo is self-catering, with chalets and casitas equipped for cooking. The resort does however also include a bar, offering refreshing drinks and light meals.

Activities

During your stay at Ponta Morrungulo, you can sit with a sundowner whilst gazing out onto azure blue waters, or take a lazy stroll down the beach and pick up shells. Kids can splash in the lovely shallow pools at low tide or dad can surf fish. There is a lovely picnic site 3km down the beach, umbrellared by palm trees.

Fishing: You can fish off your own boat, surf, fly or spear fish or book a fishing trip via the Dive Centre where you have skippered charters and can enjoy fishing without the hassle of organising your rods, baiting traces, etc.

Diving: Our Dive Centre is is offering personalized diving tours to all the Reefs in the area, including the famous "Sylvia Shoal ". They offer brand new equipment rental, snorkeling Safaris to find the majestic Whale Sharks as well as the elusive Dugong which is seen quite often in the area, Humpback Whale watching trips in season ( June till October), as well as PADI Dive courses from Open Water up till Dive Master!

Bird watching: An abundant variety of bird life thrives in this rich tropical habitat - see the collared palm thrush, green coucal, European crab plover, malachite kingfisher, hammerkop, fish eagles, paradise flycatcher, redfaced mousebirds to name a few.
