Praia de Ouro Sul is situated on the beach where the South African and Mozambican borders meet. If your idea of an unforgettable holiday demands tropical beaches, white sands, hot island weather, the warm waters of the Indian Ocean and a relaxed atmosphere, you have come to the right place.

Praia de Ouro Sul is, in the true sense of the word, an eco-friendly development, and its development since 2004 is in accordance with the strict environmental requirements of the Government of Mozambique.

Praia de Ouro Sul is the ultimate holiday destination for people looking for stylish and comfortable accommodation in truly unspoilt, remote and tranquil surroundings. Different types and configurations of accommodation and special packages are available. We extend a warm welcome to all wedding parties, conference groups and other group bookings, such as fishing or diving groups, and will put together an unforgetable package for the whole group.

We offer a wide variety of activities at the resort itself, and the neighbouring village Ponta do Ouro, which is a mere 10 minutes? drive away, is world-famous for diving and fishing. We have a dedicated service provider, Gozo Azul, who offers a wide range of diving and fishing packages.

Praia de Ouro Sul is situated in the south of Mozambique, five minutes? drive from the tranquil village of Ponta do Ouro and approximately 40 minutes? drive from the Kosi Bay border post, less than 400 km north of Durban and 700 km from Johannesburg.

Accommodation in permanent tents, constructed onto a wooden deck, fully equipped, is available throughout the year at Praia de Ouro Sul. You can choose between a superior tent (accommodating only two people; ideal for Honeymooners), a single luxury tent (accommodating a maximum of four people in an open area) and double luxury tents (accommodating a maximum of four people each in a tent, two tents situated next to each other on a wooden deck, sharing a kitchenette). All tents have electricity and hot and cold water.

Every tent, be it a single, double or superior tent, has a refrigerator, tea/coffee making facilities, a separate bathroom with a shower, basin and toilet (the superior tent also has a bath), a wardrobe, a desk/dressing table with a chair, a fan and patio furniture. Bedding and towels are supplied. No swimming towels are supplied in the tents - please bring your own or hire swimming towels from reception.

Praia de Ouro Sul offers self-catering accommodation. A boma (communal braai area) with thatched roof, kitchenette, electricity and a large braai area is available for braais and cooking. For those who don't want to cook, the resort restaurant serves breakfast, light meals during the day and dinner, daily.

Out of season stays at the resort typically include dinner vouchers, food only, for all guests.

Ponta do Ouro, the neighbouring village to Praia de Ouro Sul, is about 5 minutes drive by quad bike or 4 x 4 vehicle from Praia de Ouro Sul. Ponta do Ouro is well-known for it's excellent scuba-diving among world-famous coral reefs.

Although peace has reigned in Mozambique for some 13 years now, the ravages of a sixteen year long civil war that followed an equally protracted liberation war remain evident everywhere one goes in the country. In Ponta do Ouro, many of the houses, destroyed during the war, are being restored to their former glory.

In Ponta do Ouro, the following, among others, can be found:

• A shopping centre where you can buy basic necessities and bread, cold drinks, etc.
• An open-air market, selling anything from vegetables to headache tablets
• A few restaurants, one also serving light meals during the day. You can also buy fresh bread, pies and cake here daily
• Curio shops
• A beach camp, from which many diving schools and swimming with dolphins excursions operate.

At Praia de Ouro Sul:

You can follow walking trails: through the indigenous forest, explore the beach, walk to the lighthouse, etc. It is a bird-watcher's paradise!

You can tan, walk and fish on our own beach or swim and relax around the pool at the restaurant complex.

You can fish from the beach, which is just a few minutes' walk down the pathway from the houses on the resort to the beach.

Or you can just relax, watch television and spend some quality time with your loved ones at the restaurant.

Ponta do Ouro (just five minutes' drive from Praia de Ouro Sul):

Fishing and diving is what this area is famous for.

Various game fish such as Kings, barracuda, wahoo and tuna are targeted off ski boats throughout the year. Sailfish and black marlin is to be found in season. Anglers are having success off ski boats, jet skis and kayaks. Bookings for ski boat charters can be made when you book your accommodation, or through Reception at the Resort.

Rock and surf fishing is also very popular and stumpnose, pompano and kings are regularly caught. The services of our local guide can be booked through Reception.

As the area is a marine reserve, bottom reef fishing is not allowed. We support the catch and release principle.

Ponta is one of the top ten scuba diving sites in the world, with various coral reefs at depths from 12 meters to 55 meters.

Not far from Ponta do Ouro, you will find a 4 x 4 testing route. It is great fun to test your vehicle's capabilities here! Please be sensitive to the natural beauty and eco-system of the area. Explore the area around Praia de Ouro Sul and Ponta do Ouro and enjoy the natural, unspoilt beauty. Visit the natural lakes, marshes, dunes, traditional villages and stop at Lake Zitundo to watch the crocodiles and hippo. Be careful around Lake Zitundo, especially at night, since hippo migrate from one lake to another.
