Rio Azul Beach Lodge is located on the banks of the Govuro River in northern Mozambique - near Vilanculos and the Bazaruto Islands in the Guvoru District of Inhambane Province. Rio Azul, meaning “Blue River”, overlooks the estuary and is about 2km from the Govuro River mouth. Rio Azul lodge faces west and enjoys spectacular sunsets in a quiet and peaceful setting.

Rio Azul offers luxury lodge accommodation including six twin chalets and two luxury villas which sleep six adults and six children. Each villa has its own swimming pool and is situated along pristine beach shores.

Rio Azul Lodge‘s main area consists of a lounge, dining room, bar area with a big wooden deck in front and a plunge pool. Rio Azul Lodge has a small shop that sells items such as batteries, sun block, fishing shirts, sunglasses, hats, lures, line and other fishing tackle. The lodge has electricity supplied by a generator and plug points for charging camera batteries etc.

The beach lodge accommodation consists of six thatched luxury chalets and two luxury villas.

Fine Dining Menu: The fine dining experience menu includes freshly caught fish tantalizingly prepared together with exotic Portuguese spices and traditional cuisine. The more exotic food menu that is served on a regular basis includes some of the best sea food: crab, lobster, prawn, calamari and Mozambique Prawns to name a few.

Private and Romantic Fine Dining: A “dining under the stars” experience can be arranged for private parties or romantic dinners, as well as picnics on the beach.

The Mangrove Estuary at Rio Azul

In front of Rio Azul lies this fantastic stretch of crystal clear water which can be explored by foot or by boat. The mangrove ecosystem is made up of a fascinating chain of pioneering and sacrificial plants together with a huge array of crustaceans. Bird life is abundant, colourful and spectacular. A relaxing jaunt up the many tributaries offered around the mangrove make for an exhilarating activity. A gentle sunset cruise is bound to rid one of the final vestiges of 21st Century living.
