The Honeymoon Suite is situated at the front of the guesthouse and offers spectacular 180 degree view over Walker Bay. Watch the Southern Right Whales from the comfortable king-size bed or while lying in the spa-bath enjoying a glass of South African bullies.
The spacious room is thoughtfully yet stylishly decorated with a writing desk and two easy chairs in a separate lounge area. The honeymoon suite balcony has a coffee table and 2 chairs.
The communal areas:
A comfortable open plan lounge & dining room is divided by a free standing fire place. A large glass folding door leads out to a wooden deck. From the wooden deck you can take a refreshing plunge into the pool.
We spend hours out here enjoying the morning coffee or a crisp glass of Pierre Jourdan - Brut at sunset, watching the Southern Right Whale play in the bay (June till December).
For the cooler months there is a cosy fireplace and a good selection of South African Red Wines. There is nothing like the raw energy of a Cape Storm sitting in front of a cosy fire with a bottle of Jackson's Pinotage grown on 20km away in Stanford.
Wireless Internet is also available at the Lodge.
Food
Breakfast:
Breakfast is served from 8 till 10 overlooking Walker Bay. The continental buffet includes fresh fruit in season, plain & fruit yoghurt, prunes done in rooibos tea & cinnamon, cereals, homemade muesli or granola, cheese from the Stanford area, cold meats and pates.
Lainy's homemade jams, marmelades and preserves are served with freshly baked rolls and croissants. Taste the variety of local honey on a warm slice of toast. Free range eggs are sourced from up the road and we will prepare them to your liking. Ask for your favoured tea (give our very healthy South African Rooibos tea a go) or try our special blend of coffee.
Dinner:
For dinner arrangements ask if we are cooking or for recommendations on local restaurants. We both have a passion for food and regularly sample what's on offer trying out new ones or revisit old favourites, being in the Winelands, the big city of Cape Town or just driving the gravel roads of the Overberg.
In season (August till March) we endeavour to cook for our guest 2 to3 nights a week. This gives us an opportunity to share our passion for food with you, in an informal surrounding and with stunning views over Walker bay. Guests are welcome to join in the preparation, preferably with a glass of fine Overberg wine.
With Gansbaai's fishing harbour only minutes away there is an ample supply of fresh seafood. We try to source as much fresh produce locally in the Overberg. Our eggs come from Grootbos Nature Reserve; cream & cheese from Klein rivier cheese close to Stanford and Herbs from our own garden.
The menu normally comprises of either three or four courses with emphases on local seafood and anything fresh & interesting we can find. With the highlight being one of Lainy's mouth watering desserts.
For the nights we do not cook, there are various restaurants in the area we can recommend and book for you. There is upmarket Red Indigo Restaurant at the stylish Forest lodge on Grootbos (5 min). The cosy house restaurant Havercrofts in Stanford (15min) and a selection of restaurants in Gansbaai (5min).
