Accommodation
The Coach House offers 30 spacious, well-appointed rooms offering every comfort and convenience and each with its own generous en suite bathroom and separate shower.
There are 9 Suites and 21 Premier rooms with extra long king-size double or three quarter twin beds. All rooms have private verandahs with sweeping panoramic mountain views and are fitted with luxurious percale cotton sheets and mohair blankets, heated towel rails, air-conditioning, ceiling fans and personal bathrobes.
Other room facilities include electronic safes, hairdryers, heaters, mini bars and satellite TV with 18 channels. The bathrooms have an extensive range of guest amenities and the rooms are stocked with fresh flowers, spring water, fresh fruit and homemade biscuits daily. The Suites and Premier rooms have log-burning fireplaces where one can snuggle up on a chilly winter's night after a perfect day.

As a recipient of the coveted Chaîne de Rôtisseurs blazon, fine wining and dining is a daily occurrence at the Coach House! Renowned for the finest breakfast in the country, there is no better place to enjoy this than on the verandah overlooking the pool, which offers spectacular views of the northern Drakensberg Mountains. Feast on a stunning full buffet of fruit, yoghurt, cereals, cold meats, smoked salmon, cheeses, homemade breads and pastries and many more mouth-watering delights. A variety of delicious cooked breakfasts is available daily.
The chef and his team specialise in preparing exceptionally good food! They use only the freshest seasonal ingredients, most of which are sourced locally, like the Lunsklip River trout, Bonsmara beef, and sub-tropical fruits and nuts. Tantalize your taste buds with mouth-watering lunches and candle-lit dinners from the à la carte menu in the Zeederberg Restaurant where vegetarian and special dietary requirements are easily catered for on request.
The sumptuous Sunday buffet lunch is a festive affair with an array of delicious, carefully prepared dishes to please everyone.
The Coach House is also renowned for its charming fine wine cellar, The Broken Anvil, comprising of local and imported wines to please every palate and pocket. Platinum winner of the Diners Club International 2002 Wine List of the Year, the Broken Anvil will delight any discerning wine lover with its impressive wine list. Choice wines from the cellar complement our chef’s fine food. The cellar is available for private functions of up to 40 guests.
Enjoy a pre-dinner aperitif in the historic and atmospheric John Buchan Bar or stargaze in wonder at the crystal clear skies out on the verandah whilst sipping an exotic cocktail. After dinner, relax in front of the log fire in the comfort of the gracious Serala lounge and peruse one of our many coffee table books.
Environment Info
Agatha, where the Coach House is situated, enjoys a delightful climate all year round, and because of its location, the mercury never drops below 10°C even on a cold winter's night. Summer temperatures in the day seldom exceed 30°C. Being in a summer rainfall area, April to October is cool and very dry.
Agatha was originally established in 1888 as its altitude of 1100m (3670ft) ensures a malaria free environment.

GARDENS: Explore the fifteen hectares of enchanting beautiful garden surrounding the hotel. An eclectic collection of indigenous and exotic plants and trees has been assembled to provide one of the most interesting and well laid out hotel gardens in the country. Maps of marked walking paths are available at Reception – take a leisurely stroll or a brisk hike on one of the many routes – from 30 minutes to 3 hours.
