Food
Traditional meals: Muratie is as old as history itself, lying at the foot of the Simonsberg with a view of Table Mountain. Guarded over by ancient oak trees you will find this old 'ruin' of a restaurant - a treasure to be enjoyed. The old fermentation tanks in the cellar with their tartaric encrusted walls, old carpets, wooden furniture and original art is where you will enjoy honest home food, good wine and great company.
Traditional lunches are by prior appointment only and will be served for a minimum of 10 persons.
Summer lunches: Enjoy light lunches served under the oak trees during the season, December - February. Includes cheese platters, freshly picked fruit, preserves, ciabatta and koeksisters. Good coffee available as well!
Winter and Friday lunches: Come and enjoy traditional Karoo afval on a Friday from 12:00 to 14:00, and during June - August. This traditional farm lunch consists of a wholesome soup starter, served with homemade bread, afval or the alternative main course of the day and a traditional dessert which changes from week to week, as well as coffee.
Annatjie Melck, who hails from the Karoo, prepares and serves this honest farm lunch. She is the owner of Oom Samie se Winkel in Stellenbosch and also a director of the Wine Estate, Muratie. The meal is served in the cosy atmosphere of the fermentation tanks and the guests are surrounded by the warmth of the fireplace and the history of G P Canitz's antique paintings.
