Summary

Akeru River Lodge is situated in the Timbavati Game Reserve in the Northern Province, South Africa. For millions of years, the Timbavati has remained untouched, retaining its wild rugged character and is home to all of Africa's big game.

At Akeru you will find a refuge - a place of exquisite beauty and peace set amidst several thousand hectares of pristine Timbavati Wilderness, which is part of the greater Kruger Park Ecosystem.

You will return restored and rejuvenated - having absorbed the magical energy and spiritual presence inherent to the bush - a natural "tonic" that everyone should experience on a regular basis.

Accommodation

Akeru Safari Lodge is a small, intimate camp which accommodates just sixteen guests. It is ideal for hosting small gatherings of family, friends, mini brain storming sessions, staff incentives and children of all ages are welcome.

Lanterns for light, eco-friendly battery power for fans and gas geysers for hot water are just some of the specifics that ensure an original luxurious rustic bush experience. Four poster beds, white linen and draped mosquito nets ensure absolute romance. Each of the seven thatched chalets is en-suite with both shower and bath. The rooms offer a combination of family suites, doubles and twins to satisfy everyone's specific requirements.

Their much awaited Honeymoon suite was launched recently. This room is fitted out with a Kingsized four poster bed and has a unique and ethnic style. Funky beaded throws, bright cushions and accessories add a splash of colour whilst aged black and white photographs blend it in to create the old timeless feel that is Akeru. This room has a private patio with a view of the waterhole.

Chalet Two, a double room with a full bathroom en-suite which includes a "his and hers" wash hand basin. The suite has a private veranda with a wonderful view of the waterhole and lodge.

Chalet Three, a family chalet that has a double bed in the main room and two singles in an adjoining room. The adjoining room has access to the en-suite bathroom via the main room which makes it ideal for families or friends wishing to share. This chalet overlooks the lodges' well manicured gardens.

Chalet Four, a family chalet that has one double and one twin room each with their own entrances. The rooms are completely private and each has a separate entrance to the shared en-suite bathroom. The chalet overlooks the camps inviting swimming pool.

Chalet Five, a double room with a king size bed and a full bathroom en-suite, including a raised bath. The chalet is centrally situated close to the main building and its amenities.

Chalet Six, a twin room with a full bathroom en-suite that has a raised bath overlooking the bush.

Chalet Seven, a twin room with a full bathroom en-suite also with a raised bath that enjoys a great view of the waterhole in front of the lodge from the private patio.

There are two honeymoon suites with their own secluded patio with views of the waterhole, and they offer private romantic dinners.

Food

Meals from the Akeru kitchen are typical "home-cooking" gastronomic affairs and great care is taken to ensure that even the most discerning taste buds are well satisfied.

Africa is definitely the inspiration behind the superb cuisine. Whether it be fruit, vegetables or meat, you can't go wrong with the sumptuous feasts on offer.

Environment Info

Children are welcome and they have a programme in place for them to learn about the environment based on Nadine Clarke’s “Bush Wise”.

Activities

The professional armed rangers and trackers conduct all game drives in pursuit of Africa's big five and other game, birds and reptiles. Daily walks are encouraged, thus ensuring that the more fascinating aspects of our fauna and flora are not overlooked - emphasizing an appreciation of the complete wilderness experience.

The camp over looks a waterhole which is visited by the Timbavati’s small and big game. Time stands still here for guests whom, while away many an hour relaxing at the pool watching the animals quench their thirst.
