Summary
Kuname River Lodge is a small, unashamedly exclusive, luxury safari lodge set in about 9,000 hectares of pristine African bush, in the Karongwe Private Game Reserve in Limpopo Province. We are only 45 minutes drive from the world-famous Kruger National Park in South Africa.
Bordered by the towering Drakensberg escarpment on the west and set in game-rich, lush, riverine vegetation, the facility offers a variety of breathtaking views, diverse landscapes and some of the best big five game-viewing opportunities in southern Africa.
Luxury accommodation is on a full board basis, including all your meals.
Accommodation
Accommodation at the lodge is in five private, comfortable chalets, nestled in dense bush overlooking the majestic Drakensberg escarpment.
The air-conditioned chalets are decorated in an elegant African style, with each item of artwork having its own story.
The en-suite bathrooms include an outdoor shower as well as a luxurious outdoor bath. The magnificent views from the quaint private wooden decks on each of the chalets simply take your breath away.
Within the main lodge itself, enjoy a cocktail or freshly brewed cup of coffee in our sophisticated guest area. Relax in the shade on our magnificent wooden deck amongst the surrounding riparian bush. Refresh and invigorate yourself in the cool, clear waters of the rock pool or spend an afternoon browsing in our well-stocked library.
Food
Dining at Kuname is a special treat. A time to enjoy a kaleidoscope of flavours inspired by Africa but guided by the culinary traditions of Europe.
Our gourmet chef lured from one of South Africa's top restaurants ensures each meal at Kuname is an unforgettable gastronomic occasion. A barbecue with fine wines on the wooden viewing-deck or an elegant bush dinner, while you inhale the earthy scents of the African bush, will make your taste-buds soar.
Activities
Game Drives: Each morning before the fiery sunrise paints the sky and every evening before the sun sets, an experienced, highly-qualified, field guide and tracker takes guests on unhurried game drives in our open game vehicle to seek out and get close to the Big Five and the dozens of other animal species found on the conservancy.
But a game drive at Kuname is about more than simply ticking off animals on a 'game-sighting list' and following the Big Five. With incredible bird life and century old trees, professional guides, each with an astounding knowledge of the environment, ensure that visitors become participants, rather than just spectators as they feel the rhythms of the veld. A game drive at Kuname is about getting immersed in an African bush experience. A tactile occasion.
Walking Trails: A bush walk with an experienced ranger is a chance to literally step into a world few ever get the opportunity to experience. It is a nature expedition. Participants get to see animals on their own level, in their unique environment. They learn how everything in a delicate ecosystem has to be in perfect balance if it is to survive and flourish.
On a bush walk the emphasis is on the little creatures and tiny things that play vital roles in the functioning of this unique environment. Participants learn about medicinal plants, the region's lesser-known fauna and flora and veld-skills that have been passed from generation to generation by the region's indigenous people.
To really feel the bush one needs to sit quietly and listen and feel Africa's rhythms. Slowly the ancient edifice of wondrous architecture - the landscape, will educate your spirit, reminding you of the fragile intricacies of the bush and our special role and responsibility to protect sacred land.
Bird Watching: With over 250 different bird species at home on the conservancy, Kuname River Lodge is a spectacular birding destination for the more discerning bird-watcher.
Join a skilled and knowledgeable field guide for a birding excursion to identify and appreciate the vast amount of species that Kuname has to offer.
