COUNTRY: Botswana
AREA: Botswana
Summary
Nitani Private Game Reserve presents the quintessential African Safari experience. The perfect balance between pristine wilderness, high quality game viewing, luxurious and exclusive accommodations, and the passionate commitment of a family who have been part of this landscape for decades - Nitani is sure to appeal to the most discerning of travelers who seek something different, yet reminiscent of home.
Located in the Northern Tuli Game Reserve in Botswana (where South Africa, Botswana and Zimbabwe meet), Nitani is part of an Africa of wide open savannahs, grand and majestic skies and of people who proudly share their country and culture with visitors from far and wide.
Within the camp (raised on stilts in the unspoiled bush), the experience is a sensory one. From enjoyment of cordon-bleu cooking at the hands of their talented chef, to the quiet solitude and rejuvenating treatments on offer at the spa, one is guaranteed to leave the reserve a new person.
Accommodation
Tucked into the greenery on the banks of the Majali River lies Nitani Lodge. A quiet mecca in the middle of the wild, the camp lies elevated on stilts two metres above the earth (safely allowing elephants to browse almost within touching distance) and is entirely constructed of wood and timber. Lengthy walkways meander between the suites and the centralized facilities. The entire camp was designed for optimum appreciation of the bush (and not a single tree was cut down in the process). Solar power and generator provide the electricity for the camp.
There are only five suites at Nitani Lodge catering to no more than 10 guests at any given time. Whilst Nitani prides itself on a superior service ethic, with sufficient staff to cater to every guests’ need – privacy is sacrosanct, making Nitani a private Eden.
Each of the five suites at Nitani Private Game Reserve are lavish. Mahogany woods, natural fabrics, indulgent finishes and romantic colors merge to present the seat of indulgent luxury in the most natural of environments. Permanent waterholes in the direct vicinity of the camp means that animals are invariably viewed from the suites themselves.
Each suite is air-conditioned with a stunning bathroom en-suite. Relax in a bubble bath with a glass of champagne as you absorb the peaceful ambience of the bush surrounds. Or head outdoors to lounge at the private rock pool that flanks each of the rooms. These shaded havens have been specifically created with solitude in mind – an indulgent midnight dip under the starry sky is highly recommended!
Nitani also boasts a Honeymoon Suite which is both sumptuous (including a hand-carved king-sized bed) and private. Newly weds are treated to a complementary massage and a bottle of sparkling wine.
Facilities within the camp include a secluded wellness centre, a dining area including a finishing kitchen where meals are prepared in open view, and with the participation of guests, the Sir Williams Bar area, a generously stocked wine cellar, an open-air boma where good company is shared around a blazing fire, an astronomy deck and a fully stocked safari boutique.
Food
Nitani offers superb internationally-rated cuisine, with their executive chef preparing meals in a finishing kitchen in front of guests facilitating a highly enjoyable and interactive ambience. There is nothing as prescriptive as a set menu – the Nitani team will establish guests' dietary preferences prior to their arrival. Meals are then tailored accordingly with individualised menus.
Wherever possible, organic foods and vegetables are used (many of the vegetables are planted in the garden created and nurtured by Ade!)
Nitani caters for guests with vegan, halaal and diabetic requirements.
Environment Info
The greater Tuli region (which encompasses the Northern Tuli Game Reserve) is bordered by the Motloutse, the Shashe and Limpopo rivers in the northeastern corner of Botswana and the southwestern part of Zimbabwe. It is in the northern reaches of the Northern Tuli Game Reserve that one will find Nitani Game Reserve.
The region has a variety of landscapes... Riverine forests along the river banks and watercourses, sandstone outcrops, dolerite dykes (most notably, the renowned Solomon's Wall) and Mopane savanna.
Tuli is a semi-arid region, with rain falling in the summer months (November – March). Temperatures are very cold during winter (during early mornings and evenings – mid-day is more moderate and very pleasant), but start to escalate when spring begins in September.
The wildlife experience within the reserve is also vast. There are admirable populations of elephant, lion, leopard, cheetah, giraffe and eland. In addition to the common plains animals (such as wildebeest and zebra), there are also monkeys and baboons, as well as steenbok, the duiker, grysbok, impala, common waterbuck, bushbuck, and warthog. Also present are aardvark, aardwolf, bat-eared fox, African wild cat, spotted hyena and black-backed jackal. And the bird-life is astounding, with more than 350 different species in abundance.
