Summary

Mabuda or "Place of Dreams" is a romantic farm in the beautiful Lebombo Mountains of eastern Swaziland. Mabuda Farm offers fantastic birding amidst spectacular views. Warm thatched rondavels and chalets provide accommodation for up to 27 visitors in 7 units offering a choice of Self-catering or B&B.

Choose from our traditional 1930's-style thatched cottages, with authentic period decor, or one of our newly-built chalets which can accommodate up to 4 people each.

We have recently completed renovations on Mabuda Farm. We now offer facilities for up to 12 back-packers in 2 thatched units, and facitlites for campers on 3 sites - each with water and electricity supply.

Mabuda, in Siteki, is the ideal setting for that special weekend, a few days "away from it all", a place for groups to meet up on the way to Mozambique (border 28Km away) or the perfect stop-over on the route north to the Kruger Park.

Food

There is no bar or restaurant available on Mabuda Farm. However, Siteki Town has a Shoprite Supermarket where you can purchase basic groceries. There is also a bottle store where you can buy beers or a limited selection of wines.

R&B restaurant in Siteki is quaint, offering good food very reasonably. Jubaline Chicken sells BBQ chicken, near to R&B. Siteki Hotel has been refurbished and re-opened in December 2006. Tio Ze is an authentic Portuguese restaurant about 35 km on the road to Manzini. The chicken is really good! Wine is available. Simunye Club (about 30 minute drive away) has a pool and an excellent Sunday Buffet.

Environment Info

The Kingdom of Swaziland, is a landlocked country with an area of just over 17,000 square kilometres - about the same size as Wales and the smallest country in the Southern hemisphere. It is situated between the Republic of South Africa and Mozambique at a latitude of 31 degrees, 30 minutes east of Greenwich and a longitude of 26 degrees, 30 minutes south of the equator. Often referred to as the Switzerland of Africa, Swaziland has magnificent mountain scenery with unique, ancient rock formations which are a source of fascination for geologists and scholars. Within the small area each feature of Africa's terrain, apart from desert, may be found.

Swaziland is made up of four topographical and climatic areas, varying from 400 to 1800 metres above sea level, each with its own climate and characteristics.

The mountainous Highveld to the west has rivers, waterfalls and gorges with a temperate climate of warm, wet summers and dry winters when the temperature can rise sharply during the day but with cold nights. In recent years, snowfalls have occurred on the higher ground. Although this area is not suitable for agriculture, much of it is given over to forestry.

The subtropical Middleveld is at a lower altitude with lush, fertile valleys and a warm climate ideal for cultivating various crops. It is here that much of the country's agriculture occurs.

Further east is the Lowveld which is also subtropical and the largest region, covering about 40% of the country. While the area is prone to drought, sugar is successfully grown commercially. Cattle farming is also extensively carried out in this region, much of which is typical African bush where a profusion of indigenous wild life and flora is found.

The smallest area is Lubombo which borders with Mozambique. This subtropical region is typified by mountainous scenery and supports abundant plant and animal life. Mixed farming is the main activity.

The nearest harbour is at Maputo which is about 235 kilometres away from Mbabane, the administrative capital and 200 kilometres from Matsapha, the country's major industrial area.
