Summary

The Table Mountain Aerial Cableway Company has been providing visitors with a world-class, strikingly beautiful mountain experience since October 4, 1929. The company operates in a National Park and World Heritage site in Cape Town, South Africa.

For more than 80 years, the company has been committed to providing visitors with a memorable experience and delivering outstanding service, while being passionate about preserving our natural environment.

The cable car to the top and bottom of Cape Town's iconic Table Mountain runs between 8am and 8:30pm daily, weather permitting.

General

The Table Mountain Aerial Cableway holds a maximum of 65 people and travels at ten metres per second. The floor of the cable car performs a full 360 degree rotation to allow you a full view of the Cape Town landscape. Once you reach the top there are many more activities which you may take part in on the mountain as well as much indigenous flora and fauna to admire.

Many people with a taste for adventure prefer to climb up the mountain first and use the cable car for the descent. The recommended route for the walk up is via Platteklip Gorge to the Upper Cable Station. Although this hike is only about 3km, it is fairly strenuous and can take between one and three hours to complete. It is a demanding walk, so it's not recommended for young children.

Directions to the cable car in Cape Town are signposted and public transport is easily available to and from the venue. The cable car runs all year round, weather permitting.

Once at the top visitors enjoy spectacular views and the peaceful feeling of being over one thousand metres above the city below. The area at the top of the mountain is surprisingly large so leave enough time to stroll along the paths, enjoy the viewing platforms and soak up the vistas.

The Cableway operates in the Table Mountain National Park, an important part of the Cape Floristic Region and the single richest floristic area in the world. This area is also a World Heritage Site.
