Dolphin Viewing In Durban

Encounter Dolphins, Whales, Sharks, Turtles and Marine Birds in their own environment! 1 and 2 hour boat-based Dolphin Viewing Trips in Durban, KwaZulu Natal, South Africa, accompanied by a guide, who ensures a fun and informative experience.

The viewing trips are run by Calypso Dive and Adventure Centre, which is based at Durban's popular uShaka Marine World.

OCEAN SAFARI: For those happier to stay in the boat (a multi-passenger, motorised rubber dinghy) and experience encounters with Indian Ocean Bottlenose and Common Dolphins, we offer an informative, safe and comfortable excursion along our beautiful coastline to view pods of these graceful mammals in their natural environment. There are about 100 resident bottlenose dolphins residing between Durban and Ballito , in pods of 10 to 40 members.

For the best chance of spotting these gracious mammals in their own environment, it's best to go out as early as possible. On these excursions we get to see Turtles, Rays, Whales, Sharks at the surface, and include information on the shark nets along our coastline.

Between September and December, if you're lucky you can also see the Humpback and Southern Right Whales. This is their annual breeding migration.

For a Sardine Experience during June and July all charters may come across pockets of sardines moving up our coastline in enormous shoals which are pursued by Dolphins, Sharks, Whales, Seals, Gannets and Game Fish. It is an ocean extraordinaire and an adventure not to be missed.

ECO-ADVENTURE: This tour is aimed at tracking down specific marine animals. The tour last for 2 hours and includes a light breakfast snack on the boat.
