Summary
Looking for more than just a hike while visiting Cape Town, South Africa? Turn to Devil's Peak, an ideal spot from which to watch the sunset before heading back down.
Select from easy to more complicated trails - some even involving rock climbing - with an intention to see the sights, and enjoy some stunning views of the Mother City below you.
General
The trails up Devil's Peak offer a variety of difficulties; the toughest requiring rock climbing. Due to these variations it is hard to say exactly how long a trail will take, so the best plan is to put a day aside for the journey - although most walks should be complete within half a day. A short hike, which is the standing favourite of most, is from Rhodes Memorial to the King's Blockhouse.
Many military relics remain on the mountain and views while you ascend include fancy manors and other attractions such as the aforementioned Rhodes Memorial and University of Cape Town.
It is important to be careful of wind and mist as the mountain can be dangerous. At all times stick strictly to the allocated paths. Natural fynbos (indigenous vegetation of the Western Cape) decorates the mountain side and animals such as dassies, sunbirds, eland, wildebeest, zebras, mongeese and porcupines have been spotted on the slopes.
