Nestled in the farmlands of the Brandwater basin near Clarens in the Eastern Free State, Shumba Valley Farm offers lovers of the great outdoors a fantastic variety of adventures. Set in spectacular mountains with the Rooiberg on the west side, the Witteberg on the north and the majestic Malutis, the panoramic view across our north eastern and southern side, the landscape is awesome. We offer many other activities to compliment our extreme adventures. Our mission is to ensure that all family members can have as much fun as possible. Horse riding is one of the best mediums of relaxation, especially when our horses love giving you this relaxation. Our horses are trained to offer riders of all levels a wonderful, safe and comfortable ride in the mountains, along rivers and over rolling farmlands. All our horses are in a wonderful condition, and are a special part of the Shumba Valley Family, trained to be obedient with all levels of riders. Our saddles are general purpose and the equipment of the highest quality.

Book for hour rides, champagne breakfast rides, sunset rides, all day rides, half-day rides or 2-10 day riding safaris. We also offer moonlight rides and night walks for riders and non-riders. The rides are therapeutic and offer that human-horse bond.

DAY RIDES: Hourly Beginner rides, Children's led rides (20 minutes), All day rides (5 hours).

MULTI-DAY PACKAGES:

Package 2: OUHOUT CAMP - 4 NIGHT PACKAGE. This spectacular ride from the lodge, through Fouriesburg village and onto the camp offers the most awesome scenery, especially from the top of the Ventersburg! Three nights are spent at the lodge, with one night at the beautiful Ouhout Camp in a private nature reserve.

Package 2: CALEDON MEANDER - 5 NIGHT PACKAGE. This glorious ride gives one a taste of the diversity of the Eastern Free State. A good day's ride to a historic Ficksburg farm where we spend two nights surrounded by amazing gardens, picturesque scenery, and exceptional hospitality. A visit to a cherry product farm and a little tasting all round, and the opportunity to fill your saddle bags with gorgeous cherry liquer. On our third night we have an evening outing on the only floating cigar lounge in Southern Africa – White Mischief – and enjoy the sounds of the night and devour excellent cuisine and good wine or whiskey. A delightful ride back to the lodge on the fourth day . On the fifth day you won’t want to go home!

Package 4: "OUT OF AFRICA" - 4 NIGHT PACKAGE. This is a package for the adventurous at heart. Wonderful riding into deep kloofs and mountains. This is an all time favourite for those who enjoy the free spirit of Africa. For one night we sleep out under the stars while your horse whispers sweet nickerings into your ear and you fall into the deepest sleep ever. If this is your dream, this is your package!

Package 5: 10 Day package designed for local and overseas visitors. A holiday that really packs in everything and one that will be remembered. Please enquire.

Shumba Valley also offers two day EQUUS SOUL encounters, Corporate Modules combining a little horse adventure, Equine Workshops, Clinics, Stabling and relaxation for injured , emotionally troubled, or difficult horses.

Don't forget suitable clothing for horse riding and hiking would be long pants and closed shoes. Bring very warm clothes for those cold winter months (May to October).

All multi-day riding packages are for intermediate and/or experienced riders only. Beginner riders of all ages are welcome to participate in the other activities on offer.
