Tofo Beach is located 20km from the historic port city of Inhambane in Southern Mozambique , just over 500km north of the capital Maputo . With miles upon miles of unspoiled, pristine, tropical beaches and warm Indian Ocean waters teeming with marine life, even without the diving, Tofo is a tropical beach paradise.

Tofo is now known among international divers as one of the best places in the world to have close encounters with Manta Rays and Whale Sharks. Both Mantas and Whale Sharks can be seen in Tofo year round.

Our winter months see the arrival of the humpback whales migrating south and a great day of diving in the winter can include all of these majestic creatures in one morning - nowhere else in the world can offer this remarkable combination!!

Kruger National Park

The world famous Kruger National Park is situated in the eastern part of South Africa and is one of the best parks in all of Africa to see the Big Five -Lion, Elephant, Leopard, Buffalo and Rhino - and is truly the flagship of South Africa's game reserves. The Park covers nearly 2 million hectares.

In addition to the 'Big Five', the Park is also home to a wide variety of mammal and bird-life, including giraffes, zebra, hippos, monkeys and many species of antelope.

For those interested, The Mozambique Experience offers 1, 2 and 3 day safari tours in the Kruger National Park which can begin at the end of your dive holiday in Tofo.

DAY 1

We meet you in the morning at Johannesburg International Airport and we transfer you to Nelspruit. Accomodation is provided at Auberge Guest Lodge in Nelspruit and dinner is provided at "10 on Russel", the best restaurant in town.

DAY 2

After an early morning breakfast, a 7am transfer to the Kruger-Mpumalanga Int. Airport is provided for an 8am departure for Inhambane. Flight-time is 1 hour and 45 minutes in Cessna Caravans, offered in partnership with CFA Air charters.

Acommodation for the next 8 nights is provided by Casa Barry Lodge - Doubles and Twins in Chalets and Singles in Casitas. 2 Dives in the afternoon.

DAYS 3 - 8

We provide an early breakfast each morning at the dive shop prior to our first dive. We have 2 scheduled dives on five days and one day with 3 scheduled dives. We dive on boats chartered by The Mozambique Experience and we concentrate on reefs with Manta cleaning stations (24m - 30m deep) and areas where Whale Sharks are most common. There is time for lunch in between the first and second dive of the day. A special buffet dinner on one of these days will be provided by us. An afternoon cultural and historical tour of Inhambane city is also provided.

DAY 9

One more dive in the morning and the afternoon to relax and pack.

DAY 10

9 am transfer provided to the airport to catch a 10:15 flight back to Kruger Int. Airport. Return transfer to Johannesburg or Kruger National Park Safari option provided.

Important diving information

Many of the dives in Mozambique we do on this tour are deep dives (24-30m) and Advanced Open Water Certification is required. It is possible for divers with Open Water Certification only to do the Deep Dive Module of the Advanced Open Water Course and to join the group on the remaining deep dives upon completion. Contact us for details.

We also require all divers to carry dive travel insurance including medical evacuation coverage. All boats are equiped with first aid kits and oxygen, however the nearest recompression chamber is in Richards Bay, South Africa. Medical facilities in Mozambique are well below the western standard.

The airport serving the Tofo area is 20km from Tofo in the city of Inhambane . Emergency medical evacuation can be arranged in a matter of hours. Excellent medical care is available in South Africa .
