Fun family drakensberg weekend

For a great, relaxing family get-away that is not too far from Durban, I can strongly recommed visiting Bushman's Nek in the Drakensberg.

We left Durban at 9am and arrived at Bushman?s Neck by 11:30am. We drove through the security gate, through the immaculate grounds, past the tennis courts through to our treehouse chalet.

We parked our car in the undercover parking below the chalet and climbed the steps up to our treehouse.

The house had clearly been renovated with all new furniture and equipment and comprised of two bedrooms: one with a double bed and one with twin bed; two bathrooms: one with a shower and one with a bath; a small lounge area; kitchen and dining room that was always nicely set by the cleaning staff.

We unpacked our belongings and headed out to the magnificent over-flow pool that was like a giant rockpool with a slide and all separate little rockpools (one of which was heated). There were many umbrellas and loungers around the pool and friendly waitrons came out to take drink and snacks orders from us. We spent the afternoon with the babies in the pool. We enjoyed 360 degree views of the mountains and were surrounded by such green, well-kept lawns ? that looked unreal!

That evening, the men made a braai for us on the large lawn area beneath our treehouse, while we got the babies down to bed.

The following morning, we all went for a nice stroll to the animal farm, which is approximately 1.5km away. The children enjoyed the horses, pigs, sheep, goats and bunnies while we enjoyed the freshest scones ever.

That afternoon, we spent mainly in the pool and ordered the most amazing Long Island Iced Teas. We then attempted to play putt putt on the cute little course they have there.

That evening, we all ate dinner (which was a buffet of ribs, potato wedges, soup and desserts) in the restaurant. The manager was very efficient and friendly and the food was simple, but good. A babysitter looked after the older kids very nicely.

The following day, we took the prams for a walk to the border post. This is only a 5km walk, and the roads are nice and quiet? but the hills were quite tiresome with a 20kg pram!!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Bushman?s Nek Resort and look forward to returning in the near future.

We would like to thank Beach and Bush Adventures for arranging this lovely get-away for us!!
