Terrific trip to tala
It was quite a miserable day in Durban, and we could not decide what to do that was close, but fun and entertaining for a baby.
We chose to visit Tala Game Reserve for an overnight stay, and within 35 minutes of driving we were at our destination.
We entered the gates of TALA and drove for about two hours. In this time we saw many wildebeest, 5 rhino, impala, kudu, nyala, eland and many species of bird. It was great, because as we approached an animal, we actually got out of the car and walked quite close up to them – it was very exciting for our one year old son! We took a little break from the driving and visited the ‘Bird and Hippo Hyde’ where we saw four hippos and many ducks and geese. The setting was beautiful and very tranquil.
We drove past the fisherman’s cottage which is very cute and rustic and had a little look inside. This would also be perfect for an overnight stay! We also found the lovely rock pool which was full of children that seemed to be having a ball!
We stopped off at the Bar area where we ordered an ice cold beer and basket of tasty ribs and chips.
Following dinner, We then went through to our rondawel, which was also rustic and simple and it overlooked a dam with many water lilies. The room had a huge comfortable bed and a shower, basin and toilet. It was simply decorated with African – style furnishings. There was a verandah area with a nice fire place area where we made a fire that night.
There were only two rondawels – totally isolated in the middle of the bush – it was great and exciting. We had an excellent night’s sleep and woke early the next morning to drive through to the lovely breakfast buffet. It was delicious and well presented.
Before we headed off home, we revisited the large dam where we saw the same hippos and a group of 5 extremely tame Nyala. They were beautiful and not phased in the least by us.
We would like to recommend this as a very quick get-away, and thank Beach and Bush Adventures for recommending this to us. It really was a lovely game-viewing experience.
